For the Public Trustee and Public Administrators

The Public Administrator of San Diego handles Intestate case within the County. They try to quickly solve these cases before they become public.  We solved three difficult and interesting cases for them that all had their solutions in Canada.

We also worked for the Office of the Public Trustee in Edmonton for over ten years.  The Office of the Public Trustee most often does their own research and they are good at it.

The bulk of the work we have done for the Public Trustee involves Intestate Cases for which the Office of the Public Trustee is the Administrator of the Estate of a deceased person for whom there is no known next of kin.  PathFinders usually receives its mandate to work on any file about one to two year after the Intestate passed away.

At the time that the case is given to PathFinders, the Public Trustee may know the identity of who they are looking for, but in some cases few clues have developed and they would be looking for any next of kin.

Quite a few of their cases were looking for the next of kin of persons that had been Wards of the Province since or soon after birth.  They also had cases that involved looking for witnesses to documents, missing documents or looking for unknown and known heirs that they could not find. The 100 or so cases that Pathfinders did for the Office of the Public Trustee were of invaluable experience.

For the Oil and Gas

When an Oil or Gas Company would like to explore an area they will hire a Land and Lease Company to lease the mineral rights in that area.  In Alberta, only about 20% of mineral rights are freehold and the other 80% are held by the Crown.

Occasionally, these Land and Lease Companies will come across an old mineral title.  If they cannot resolve this title themselves, quite often they will ask PathFinders to resolve this title.  This means that PathFinders will discover who owns this mineral title now.  The objective of this research is to find someone that legally owns the title and with whom the Land and Lease Company can negotiate a lease of the mineral rights.

PathFinders gained its reputation solving many old unresolved titles and PathFinders has, to date, resolved over 2000 mineral titles.

For Lawyers and Trust Companies

All of the cases that PathFinders has worked on for Trust Companies and lawyers has been to locate known missing heirs and/or their descendants.

For Heir Locaters and Genealogists

At various times PathFinders has resolved matters for forensic genealogists and Heir-Locaters.  For these clients, PathFinders has been able to locate whole missing families, individual missing heirs and missing documentation proving heirship.
